Brushy Hill Farm offers programs for Girl Scouts to earn the "HORSE FAN BADGE" and "HORSE RIDER BADGE". These badges allow young girls the chance to experience horse care and basic riding skills in a safe and professional environment.

The Horse Fan Badge...........................................................................................$20 per Scout

This badge is for the novice and focuses on safety and building confidence. The program begins with a tour of the farm to meet the horses and become familiar with proper stable behavior. Scouts learn how to approach a horse, put on a halter and to lead. Horses will be cross -tied and basic parts of the horse, grooming and equipment will be demonstrated. Scouts learn horse care, feeding, tacking up and the daily chores necessary to keep horses safe and happy. "Hands on" participation is expected by each student. This program requires 90 minutes.

The Horse Rider Badge........................................................................................$40 per Scout

This badge is more advanced and should follow the Horse Fan Badge. Scouts should be able to groom and tack up their horse for a mounted lesson. They will learn how to mount, adjust their stirrups and sit correctly in the basic riding position. An individual leader will assist students as they learn how to walk, trot and halt. Posting and sitting trot will be demonstrated. Ring etiquette is explained. Scouts learn how to dismount. They are expected to untack, groom and put their mount away correctly. This program requires 90 minutes.
